Oil Pump Removal
- Remove:
Alternator Rotor (see Alternator Rotor Removal in the Electrical System chapter)
Starter Motor Clutch Gear (see Starter Motor Clutch Gear and Starter Idle Gear Removal in the Crankcase/Crankshaft chapter) - Remove:
Oil Separator Cover Bolts [A]
Oil Separator Cover [B]
- Remove:
Circlip [A]
Oil Pump Driven Gear [B]
Drive Chain [C]
Special Tool - Outside Circlip Pliers: 57001-144
- Remove:
Oil Pump Screws [A]
Oil Pump Assembly [B]
Oil Pump Installation
- Install the oil pump assembly so that the arrow [A] faces up, and
tighten its screws.
Torque - Oil Pump Screws: 9.8 N*m (1.0 kgf*m, 87 in*lb)
NOTE
- Fill the oil pump with the engine oil before installation.
- Install the pump driven gear and drive chain by aligning the pump driven gear with the cutout in the pump shaft.
- Replace the circlip with a new one.
- Install the new circlip.
Special Tool - Outside Circlip Pliers: 57001-144
- Install the oil separator cover, and tighten its bolts.
Torque - Oil Separator Cover Bolts: 9.8 N*m (1.0 kgf*m, 87 in*lb)
- Install the removed parts (see appropriate chapters).
Oil Pump Disassembly
- Remove:
Oil Pump Assembly (see Oil Pump Removal)
Screw [A]
Oil Pump Cover [B]
- Remove:
Inner Rotor [A]
Outer Rotor [B]
Oil Pump Assembly
- Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
Oil Pump Inspection
- Disassemble the oil pump assembly (see Oil Pump Disassembly).
- Visually inspect the oil pump body [A], outer rotor [B] and inner rotor [C].
- If there is any damage or uneven wear, replace the oil pump body, rotors or the oil pump assembly.
Oil Pipe
Oil Pressure Switch Removal
- Remove the right lower fairing (see Lower Fairing Removal in the Frame chapter).
- Slide the switch cover [A], and disconnect the oil pressure switch connector [B].
- Remove the oil pressure switch [C].
Oil Pressure Switch Installation
- Install the oil pressure switch.
Torque - Oil Pressure Switch: 23 N*m (2.3 kgf*m, 17 ft*lb)
- Connect the oil pressure switch connector together with the switch cover.
- Install the removed parts (see appropriate chapters).

WARNING Vehicle operation with insufficient, deteriorated, or contaminated engine oil will cause accelerated wear and may result in engine seizure, accident, and injury. Check the oil level before each use and change the oil and filter according to the periodic maintenance chart.
