You know that your sector of the economy is gaining some traction when it gets the attention of Consumer Reports magazine. Indeed, an upcoming monthly issue of CR will feature the first coverage of scooters and entry-level motorcycles.

We got in touch with Consumer Reports Senior Director of Auto Tests Division David Champion – who was nice enough to respond even though he was enjoying his year-end vacation at the time. He confirmed that CR will run “a first look at what is available, basic performance and rider safety.”

David Champion – in his comfort zone.

The Auto Test Division at Consumer Reports employs more than 20 staffers, so you can imagine that substantial resources will be put into the effort. At ScooterMaxi.com, we find it especially encouraging that the scooter segment will be explored with a strong emphasis on safety. Our hope is that CR will view the emergence of maxiscooters as a viable personal transportation option worthy of thorough testing and evaluation. Champion is a native of Great Britain where two-wheeled transportation has been a popular way of life for generations.

Consumer Reports opened up a forum for Motorcycles and Motor Scooters in mid-2008, so the decision to move forward with substantial print coverage is not surprising.
