At ScooterMaxi, we aren’t about to start making exceptions as to what qualifies as a maxiscooter, but if we did the new Kymco Yager 200i would be right at the front of the line. We rode the Yager 200i in early 2008 at Kymco USA headquarters – and came away mightily impressed. Now, the Yager 200i is making the rounds at the winter motorcycle shows, and will arrive in showrooms in spring as a 2010 model.
This strong, fuel-injected 175cc qualifies as the most-advanced Kymco scooter offered below the top-of-the-line Xciting models. Not only is the claimed 16-hp rating impressive, but the remarkable ride, handling and responsiveness make it a formidable commuter.
With a 2.9 gallon tank and estimated 70-75 mpg, visits to the gas pump will be infrequent. You also have plenty of underseat storage, and strong-stopping disc brakes front and rear. The ample seat easily accommodates a pillion rider, complete with backrest. Our ice-blue demonstrator featured superb fit and finish. Retail MSRP is a reasonable $3,499.
While Yager 200i is new to the U.S., it is not untested. If you decide to buy one, don’t take it as an insult if someone from overseas happens to comment, “Hey, you’ve got a Dink.” That refers to its given name in most countries, but, thankfully, not here.
